Sponsoring A Sanctuary Bird
Due to the increase of surrendered birds to Gulf Coast Exotic Bird Sanctuary our resources are stretched to the limit and we need your help in regards to sponsoring an exotic bird.
Sponsoring an exotic bird provides you the sponsor with the joy of sharing in the experience of the care of your selected bird(s) without the responsibility, noise or mess. Sponsors can visit their sponsored birds by appointment.
Sponsoring a sanctuary bird will enable us to take in more handicapped and aggressive exotic birds or birds requiring permanent sanctuary as requested by the previous owners and allow us to build more aviaries.

Please note that pictures are taken when the parrots arrive to the sanctuary so most are in the cages they arrived with until they are moved into flights.

Elvis came to us from the Austin Zoo. His previous owners surrendered him because they no longer had time for him.
Cosmo
also came to us from the Austin Zoo. He was also surrendered because his
previous owners did not have time for him.
Sargent's
previous owner was getting ready to go away to school and did not feel it would
be fare to leave him behind.
Jasmine
came to us from National Parrot Rescue And Preservation Society whom we work
with closely. She was brought in to a veterinary clinic to be euthanized.
Rex's previous owners started working outside of the home and felt he would do better in a sanctuary environment where he would have more stimulation. It was a very hard decision for them to make.
Morris came to us from a veterinarian and his wife. He was originally brought in to the hospital where the veterinarian worked to be euthanized because the person "didn't want him anymore".
Mickey
and Minnie are a retired breeding pair. The previous owner was moving to
California and wanted them to go to a sanctuary.
Garth
and Sandy are also a retired breeding pair from the same previous owner as Mickey
and Minnie.

had passed through seven homes before arriving to the sanctuary.
Sunny's previous owner started traveling and did not think it would be fair to leave her alone all the time.
Kizzy's
previous owner started traveling and did not think it would be fair to leave him
alone all the time.

Sammy's previous owner went into a nursing home so the children brought him to our sanctuary.
Lilly's previous owner got transferred to Indonesia. Her previous owner still comes to visit when she is in the U.S.
Sammy and Lilly are in the "getting to know you" stage. This is why Sammy is in a smaller cage in Lilly's aviary.
Molly and Ricky's previous owner went into a nursing home and the children brought them here to the sanctuary.
Gracie (on the left) was rescued from a breeding facility. She was no longer "worth feeding" according to the breeder because she stopped producing.
Gracie is sponsored by Dean Hanson in memory of "Woodstock".

Crackers previous owner was transferred to Indonesia. She still comes to visit him when she is in the U.S.
Cootie
was rescued from a breeder. The breeder did not want her anymore because she
"disrupted her breeding flock". Cootie arrived with many problems and
has had to have both wings amputated. She is a sweetheart.

Dexter was brought to us because the previous owners had a baby and Dexter would try to attack him. Dexter is now out in an aviary and sweet as can be. He has become best friends with Pumpkin.

Pumpkin was taken in by a friend temporarily while the previous owner was recovering from having a baby. Pumpkin was not welcome back so the friend brought her here to the sanctuary. She now resides with her best friend Dexter in an aviary.

sister brought them to the sanctuary.

Coie was at the veterinary clinic very ill. At first it was thought to be something contagious but it turned out not to be. This worried the previous owners so both her and cole were sent to our sanctuary.

Snowflake
and her mate were bought 13 years ago for a wedding because it was cheaper to
buy them than to rent them. Snowflake and her mate lived in a laundry room where
the cage was covered because the owners did not like the noise they made.
Snowflake's mate died two years ago knowing nothing else but that life.
Snowflake was rescued from this situation recently and brought to our sanctuary.
She has arthritis and cannot perch.

Ivan came to us from ExxonMobil. He was originally rescued on their property and rehabilitated after having a wing amputated. He resided there for seven years until his caretaker was told he needed to be placed in a sanctuary. ExxonMobil was kind enough to pay to have his habitat moved to our sanctuary.
